Trip Overview

This overland tour with EBC leads you to travel from Kathmandu, Nepal, and pass through snowcapped mountain peaks, dramatic high passes, Cristal lakes, numerous Tibetan settlements, and ancient monasteries and temples. Tour ends in Lhasa, Tibet.
Itinerary Details Day by Day

Day 1 Kathmandu – the border – Zhangmu
Upon your arrival at the border between China and Nepal, our guide from Lhasa will meet you and pick you up at the Friendship Bridge. Then transfer to Zhangmu and check in your hotel. The rest of day is free on your own to prepare for the lifetime overland trip.
Day 2 Zhangmu – Tingri ( B )
Today, drive around 4-5 hours from ( around 2000m )to Tingri ( 4300m ). After your arrival, check in your hotel. The rest of day is free for you to explore the local area, acclimatize to the altitude and prepare for your Mt. Everest tour.

Day 3 Tingri – Everest Base Camp – Tingri ( B )
Today, drive 100km ( around 4 hours ) to Everest Base Camp ( 5,200m ). On the way, visit Rongpuk Monastery; the NO.1 Highest monastery in the world and located at the foot of Mt. Qomolangma. If in good weather, you can have a glimpse of 4 mountains of 8,000m high or more, such as Mt. Lhotse(8,516ms), Mt. Everest (8,848ms), Mt. Qowowuyag (8,201ms), Mt Mayalu (8,463ms). Then drive back to Tingri for overnight.

Tips: 
* It requires 2-hour trekking from the monastery to the Everest Base Camp. It is quite cold there, so pack warm clothes.
* You will not stay overnight in the camp today, for coming into Tibet from Kathmandu won’t allow enough time for you to get used to the high altitude. We arrange visitors to pay a shorter visit to Mt. Everest, but save their energy for the rest of the tour.

Day 4 Tingri – Shigatse ( B )
Today, drive to Shigatse. Visit Sakya Monastery, built in 1268, is a massive fortresslike compound with high defensive walls in the southern section of the monastery. There are many historical articles there, such as: Imperial certificates, gold signets, crowns, and clothes given by the Yuan Dynasty emperors. Overnight at Shigatse.

Day 5 Shigates – Gyangtse ( B )
Today, drive about 90km from Shigates to Gyangtse. You visit Tashilhunpo Monastery; the seat of Panchen Lama and one of the largest functioning monasteries in Tibet. Then move to Gelugpa Monastery where you view a giant statue of Future Buddha, the largest one of its kind on earth, decorated with precious pearls, turquoises, corals and ambers. Overnight at Gyangtse.

Day 6 Gyangtse – Tsetang ( B )
Today, drive about 100km from Gyangtse to Tsetang. You will get to appreciate the Holy Lake of Yamdrok; one of three most famous holy lakes in Tibet. The scenery of blue water in the lake with the reflection of surrounding snow-capped mountains is the most beautiful.
Next drive to Tsetang which is known as “the cradle of Tibet Civilization” for two reasons: one is its mild weather and fertile land, and another is that it is the birthplace of the first Tibetan. Visit Trandruk Monastery, built to commemorate Songtsen Gampo’s great deeds. Overnight at Tsetang.

Day 7 Tsetang – Lhasa ( B )
In the morning, drive to visit Samye monastery, which was the first Buddhist monastery erected in Tibet. You will explore this oldest and holiest Buddhist sites: the first floor is Tibetan style, the second is Han style and the third is Indian style. Then drive to Lhasa. Overnight at Lhasa.

Day 8 Lhasa ( B )
In the morning, climb up to the famous Potala Palace and get a great view of Lhasa’s urban areas. You will have a good chance to view the traditional Tibetan architecture, hear the story of the Dalai Lamas and see chapels in which they studies, rested and worked.
In the afternoon, visit the holiest Jokhang Temple, which is within walking distance from Potala Palace. You will see many pilgrims worship within or nearby the temple and hear red-robed Lamas praying there. Then take a relaxing walk in a large circular path around Jokhang Temple at Barkor Street, where you can buy or appreciate traditional Tibetan artifacts, religious implements, antiques, books, etc.

Tips: 
* Take your time and rest when climb up to Potala Palace; try not to disturb pilgrims; remember to bargain and compare the price in the shops at Barkor Street.

Day 9 Lhasa ( B )
After breakfast, drive to visit the Norbulingka Park, where you will explore the beautiful gardens and experience one of the most holy sites in Tibetan Buddhism. Then proceed to Drepung Monastery which was once the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery housing 10,000 monks in its heyday.
In the afternoon, move to Sera Monastery, where you will have chance to experience “Buddhism Scriptures Debating”, which are unique to Sera and are quite famous.

Tips: 
Pack plenty of water with you; bring your sun glasses and sun-cream.

Day 10 Lhasa Departure ( B )
Today is free for you until you are transferred to the airport for your flight to next destination.
