Trip Overview

This overland tour with EBC tour leads you to travel from Lhasa and discover in-depth highlights in Tibet. Trek on the way to Mt. Everest and enjoy the breaktaking snow scenery there. Tour ends at the border of China and Nepal.
Itinerary Details Day by Day

Day 1 Lhasa Arrival
Welcome to Tibet! Your local guide will meet you in Gonggar airport or Lhasa Railway Station, and then escort you to your hotel in Lhasa. After arrival at your hotel, the rest of the day is free for you to explore the local area and acclimatize yourself to this high altitude city at the top of the world.

Tips: 
* Avoid strenuous exercise for the first few days, not take showers; drink more water, have fresh fruit and plenty of rest.
Day 2 Lhasa ( B )
In the morning, climb up to the famous Potala Palace and get a great view of Lhasa’s urban areas. You will have a good chance to view the traditional Tibetan architecture, hear the story of the Dalai Lamas and see chapels in which they studies, rested and worked.
In the afternoon, visit the holiest Jokhang Temple, which is within walking distance from Potala Palace. You will see many pilgrims worship within or nearby the temple and hear red-robed Lamas praying there. Then take a relaxing walk in a large circular path around Jokhang Temple at Barkor Street, where you can buy or appreciate traditional Tibetan artifacts, religious implements, antiques, books, etc.

Tips: 
* Take your time and rest when climb up to Potala Palace; try not to disturb pilgrims; remember to bargain and compare the price in the shops at Barkor Street.

Day 3 Lhasa ( B )
After breakfast, drive to visit the Norbulingka Park, where you will explore the beautiful gardens and experience one of the most holy sites in Tibetan Buddhism. Then proceed to Drepung Monastery which was once the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery housing 10,000 monks in its heyday.
In the afternoon, move to Sera Monastery, where you will have chance to experience “Buddhism Scriptures Debating”, which are unique to Sera and are quite famous.

Tips: 
Pack plenty of water with you; bring your sun glasses and sun-cream.
Drepung Monastery
Day 4 Lhasa - Gyangtse ( B )
Today, drive around 5 hours from Lhasa to Gyangtse. Cross over the summit of Kamba La Pass (4,794m), you will see the tranquil turquoise waters of Yamdrok Lake below. In further distance, you will view massive Mt. Nojin Kangtsang (7,191m), and the stunning Karo-la Glacier (5,045m).
After arrival in Gyangtse, you will travel Pelkor Monastery to admire fancy frescoes, statues and sculptures. Overnight at Gyangtse.

Tips: 
The road condition from Lhasa to Gyangtse is rough, feel free to ask your driver to stop and stretch your legs and take pictures of the beautiful surroundings.
Yamdrok Lake
Day 5 Gyangtse – Shigatse ( B )
Today, drive 90km from Gyangtse to Shigatse. You visit Tashilhunpo Monastery; the seat of Panchen Lama and one of the largest functioning monasteries in Tibet. Then move to Gelugpa Monastery where you view a giant statue of Future Buddha, the largest one of its kind on earth, decorated with precious pearls, turquoises, corals and ambers. Overnight at Shigatse.

Day 6 Shigatse – Tingri ( B )
Today, drive to Tingri. Visit Sakya Monastery, built in 1268, is a massive fortresslike compound with high defensive walls in the southern section of the monastery. There are many historical articles there, such as: Imperial certificates, gold signets, crowns, and clothes given by the Yuan Dynasty emperors. Overnight at Tingri.

Day 7 Tingri – Everest Base Camp ( B )
Today, drive 100km ( around 4 hours ) to Everest Base Camp ( 5,200m ). On the way, visit Rongpuk Monastery; the NO.1 Highest monastery in the world and located at the foot of Mt. Qomolangma. If in good weather, you can have a glimpse of 4 mountains of 8,000m high or more, such as Mt. Lhotse(8,516ms), Mt. Everest (8,848ms), Mt. Qowowuyag (8,201ms), Mt Mayalu (8,463ms). Overnight at Rongpuk Monastery Tent or Guest House.

Tips: 
It can be quite cold there, especially in night, so pack warm clothes; remember to take photos of Mt. Everest surrounded by the moon and stars.

Day 8 Everest Base Camp – Tingri – Zhangmu ( B )
Today, after enjoying the sunrise from Rongbuk Monastery, drive back to Tingri. Then drive to Zhangmu, close to Nepal and about 350km from Mt. Everest. Overnight at Zhangmu. 
Tips: 
The drive will take most of the day. You should make sure to bring plenty of snacks and ask the driver whenever you want to take a break, and stretch your legs or take pictures.

Day 9 Zhangmu Departure ( B )
After breakfast, drive to the border of Nepal and China. Your tour ends in the border. If you want we can also arrange your pickup from the border to Kathmandu for you.
